Businessmen from the Chinese province of Zhejiang have expressed interest in using Kazakhstan's infrastructure capabilities within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), Report informs referring to the press service of the Akimat (local government) of the Akmola region.
The entrepreneurs announced this during a visit to the region.
"The delegation is considering the industrial zone of republican significance Akmola as a site for the placement of their production facilities," the press service said in a statement.
In addition, possible cooperation in projects related to e-commerce and logistics is being discussed. Zhejiang is one of the key provinces of China with the administrative center in Hangzhou, where the headquarters of such technology giants as Alibaba, DingTalk and others are located. The region is also a leader in the number of large private companies in China actively investing abroad.
The Middle Corridor connects China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and Europe.
In 2023, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan signed an agreement to establish a joint railway company, Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd., to improve the efficiency of transit transportation.
The volume of cargo transportation along the TITR in 2024 increased by 62%, reaching 4.5 million tons. In 2025, the transportation of 5.2 million tons is forecast, of which 4.2 million tons will go along the line of TITR member countries. Of this volume, 2.5 million tons will be dry cargo (96,000 TEU), and 1.7 million tons will be oil.
By 2027, the route's throughput capacity may reach 10 million tons.
