France is calling on the international community to urgently implement the Paris Agreement commitments, France's Climate Ambassador Kevin Morgan Wilmes said at a high-level meeting during COP29.
Report quotes him as saying Paris emphasizes the need to implement measures proposed at previous climate summits.
"Key tasks include the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels, tripling renewable energy sources, and doubling energy efficiency by 2030. France's national program envisions phasing out coal by 2027, oil by 2045, and gas by 2050. An increase in nuclear energy share is also planned," said Wilmes.
According to the French delegate, the transition to renewable energy sources will be the most effective and economical way to meet global energy needs.
He also stated that France, as part of its financial commitments, allocated 7.6 billion euros in 2022 and 7.2 billion euros in 2023 to combat the climate crisis. According to Wilmes, one-third of these funds are directed towards climate change adaptation.
