Role of int’l organizations in combating Islamophobia discussed in Baku

Panel discussions on the “Joint cooperation in the fight against Islamophobia and the role of international organizations” have been held in Baku as part of the international conference on combating Islamophobia, Report informs.

According to Haji Ali Ajikgul (Türkiye), vice-chairperson of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, for many years, representatives of Islam have faced hatred and discrimination, and have repeatedly witnessed the creation of cartoons of the prophet, the burning of the Koran, etc.

He noted that it is especially important that a special strategy be adopted in the media to eradicate all types of stereotypes in relation to Muslims.

In turn, President of the G20 Interfaith Dialogue Forum Cole Durham noted that the facts of manifestation of Islamophobia, as well as many other manifestations of hatred on religious grounds, are on rise.

He noted that the best way to combat Islamophobia or other types of hatred is through dialogue and cooperation between representatives of different faiths.

In addition, Tasnim Aslam (Pakistan), Ambassador, Member of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission and Bulent Aras (Qatar), and research director at the Center for International Policy Research, also spoke at the panel.
