Healing wounds of war: Azerbaijan prioritizes restoration of Karabakh's cultural treasures

A total of 67 mosques in Azerbaijan's liberated territories fell victim to vandalism and destruction during the 30-year Armenian occupation, Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations said at the conference "Women in the Islamic World: Traditions and Challenges" in the historic city of Shusha.

According to Report, he emphasized the critical importance of restoring Karabakh's historical, religious, and cultural monuments.

"It is no coincidence that it was an Azerbaijani woman who initiated this noble and supreme mission," Mammadov said.

First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva announced the launch of a project by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to restore religious monuments and mosques in the ancient Karabakh land shortly after the liberation of the occupied territories.

Mammadov proudly reported on the progress made thus far, noting that several significant religious sites have already been restored and put into operation. These include the Juma Mosque in Aghdam, the Zangilan Mosque, the Yukhari Govharagha Mosque in Shusha, the Ashaghi Govharagha Mosque in Shusha, the Mamai Mosque, the Taza Mahalla Mosque, the Saatli Mosque in Shusha.
