Reuters: Iran not ready to negotiate on defense capabilities

Tehran is not prepared to negotiate on its defense capabilities. The demand for Iran to cease uranium enrichment has led to a deadlock, according to an unnamed senior Iranian official speaking to Reuters, Report informs.

"Iran will not negotiate on its defense capabilities, including its missile program… Zero uranium enrichment is practically a dead-end," the information says.

Despite the unrealistic proposals made by the foreign ministers of the "EU trio" (the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) and the head of the EU diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, regarding Tehran's nuclear program at talks in Geneva, Iran will give an official response next week, the source noted.

He emphasized that if the Europeans continue to insist on their proposals, it will not bring the parties closer to reaching an agreement. "In any case, Iran will review the European proposals in Tehran and present its responses at the next meeting," the agency quoted him as saying.

Following the June 20 talks in Geneva, the EU diplomatic service head Josep Borrell said Iran and the EU trio discussed not only the nuclear issue and agreed to continue negotiations. Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy called on Tehran and Washington to continue talks for a peaceful resolution of issues related to Iran's nuclear program.
