Georgian Central Election Commission elects chairman

Tbilisi. 24 December. REPORT.AZ/ The Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC) has held the chairman elections.

Georgian Bureau of Report News Agency informs that the current chairman of the CEC, Tamar Zhvania, has been reelected head of the organization for the next five years by secret ballot.

Besides Zhvania, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili nominated Mariam Selega and Vladimir Bojadze for the CEC presidency.

8 out of 9 members voted for Tamar Zhvanian's candidacy. Members of the opposition parties European Georgia and United National Movement, who were represented in the Commission, refused to participate in the voting process. Zhvania did not enjoy the right to vote.

Notably, Tamar Zhvania has been heading the Georgian CEC since 2013. It is the first time that the chairman of the Supreme Election Board is reelected.
