Foreign ministers of 12 EU countries urge Borrell to make statement on situation in Georgia

The foreign ministers of 12 European countries have called on EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell to make an emergency statement on the situation in Georgia as the bill on foreign agents is being considered, Report informs referring to Georgian media.

The foreign ministers of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden noted in their address to Borrell that a direct and clear message today is of great importance to ensure Georgia’s European future tomorrow.

The ministers of these countries believe that after a recent speech by the honorary chairperson of the Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, it became obvious that the Georgian government has “moved away from the democratic West and its standards” by using “violence against peaceful protesters and journalists covering the protests.”
