David Chikelidze: Western countries trying to discredit ruling party Georgian Dream

Although the pre-election situation in Georgia is currently stable, radical opposition parties are conducting a targeted campaign of pressure and discrimination against the Central Election Commission (CEC), Georgian expert David Chikelidze told Report.

He called the pressure on CEC employees unacceptable, recalling that earlier representatives of the mentioned structure began receiving threatening messages.

"Unfortunately, the scale of Western countries' interference in Georgia's internal affairs is extremely large. The words of these countries' ambassadors show that the current Georgian government is undesirable for them, and they are trying to discredit the ruling Georgian Dream party. I hope that the authorities will cope with this pressure," noted Chikelidze.

The expert added that relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan will not change after the elections.

"Historically, there have been very good relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan. After the Georgian Dream came to power, relations reached the level of strategic partnership. Joint statements by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev confirm this," David Chikelidze concluded.
