Yerevan says EU mission will continue monitoring border with Azerbaijan until its complete delimitation

The EU civilian mission in Armenia will continue monitoring the border with Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at today's press conference.

Report informs via Armenian media that, according to him, Armenia needs the EU civilian mission that monitors the situation on the border with Azerbaijan until the delimitation process is fully completed.

Earlier the European Parliament urged to increase the number of experts deployed within the mission in Armenia, enhance its capacity and extend the deployment period for another five years, and expand its geographical coverage to the border between Armenia and Türkiye."

Meanwhile, Baku believes that the activities of the European Union mission in Armenia on the border with Azerbaijan should be terminated. Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to President - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, previously said the EU mission in Armenia is not a mechanism that contributes to establishing peace in the region.

According to him, the process of delimitation and demarcation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a matter for the two countries. "The presence of a third party at the border contributes to increased tension," Hajiyev noted.
