European officials expect US President Donald Trump to put pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their August 18 meeting, urging him to accept the terms of a peace settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict proposed by Moscow.
Report informs, citing The Wall Street Journal, that the paper says in Europe, Zelenskyy’s main task is seen as convincing Trump that there are better alternatives to achieve the US president’s primary goal — the swift end of the conflict.
At the same time, European representatives privately acknowledge that Ukraine will not be able to regain all of its territories but insist that losses should be minimized and that the territories occupied by Russia should not be recognized as Russian.
