US to correct tariff order and make reimbursements, Japan envoy says

US President Donald Trump's administration has agreed to correct a presidential order on tariffs and reimburse all mistakenly collected levies, Japanese trade envoy Ryosei Akazawa told reporters on Thursday, Report informs via Nikkei Asia.

According to previous explanations from the Japanese government, the agreement concluded with the US provided for an increase in duties to 15% on those goods for which duties are currently below this level, while duties above 15% were to remain unchanged. However, there was no indication of this in the presidential decree, as a result of which 15% was added to the already existing duties.

In the case of similar agreements in the EU, these conditions were recorded in writing. An agreement was also reached to reduce duties on Japanese cars imported to the US from the current 27.5% to 15%, but there was no indication of the time frame for implementing this point on paper either.
