US President Donald Trump stated that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they intrude into the alliance's airspace.
The American leader made the remark during a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
"Yes, I believe so," Trump said in response to a question about whether NATO should take such action.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented that there is "nothing new" in NATO's claims about alleged Russian airspace violations over alliance member states.
Prior to that, NATO vowed a firm response to Russia following an incident involving Russian MiG-31 fighter jets, which allegedly violated the airspace of Estonia.
