Andrija Mandić, Chairman of the Montenegrin Parliament (Skupština), has sent a request to the country's president and prime minister to convene an urgent meeting of the National Security Council due to ongoing forest fires.
According to Report, Mandić said on X that the Security Council meeting is necessary to approve "urgent measures to protect human lives, property, infrastructure, and natural resources."
Several large forest fires have broken out in Montenegro during the peak summer tourist season. The most severe situations are reported in the two largest cities — Podgorica and Nikšić — as well as in several coastal areas.
The day before, Serbia sent a 5-ton capacity helicopter to Montenegro as emergency assistance.
