Representatives of the IAEA will hold talks in Washington next week with US officials regarding enriched uranium in Iran.
Report informs via Bloomberg that the talks became a necessity due to the agency’s inability to assess Iran’s stockpiles of enriched uranium following Israeli and US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. After the joint Israeli-US military operation in June 2025, Tehran banned IAEA inspections at its nuclear sites.
According to the agency’s sources, due to the suspension of inspections, 274 IAEA staff members in the Islamic Republic cannot determine the whereabouts of 409 kg of highly enriched uranium.
It should be noted that on June 22, US President Donald Trump ordered strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. After the strikes, he reported the “complete destruction” of Iran’s program to develop “nuclear weapons” and threatened new attacks if Tehran attempts to restore its nuclear infrastructure.
