The German Attorney General’s Office filed last August with the Berlin court the accusation of high treason against Carsten L., the spy in the service of Russia discovered within the Federal Information Service (BND), Germany's external intelligence agency, said Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, Report informs.
This is what the radio and television broadcaster "Ard" reports, recalling that the "mole" was the director for the security of the Bnd, i.e. responsible for checks on personnel, and was arrested in Berlin on December 21, 2022.
Along with the Russian spy, the GBA accused one of its alleged accomplices, Arthur E., captured in Munich on January 26 of high treason.
Now, the Berlin court will have to decide whether to uphold the charges. While the BND executive has been silent since his arrest, the other defendant provided numerous elements during the interrogations, allowing the investigators to shed light on the matter. If convicted, the two face a prison sentence of up to life in prison.
