Uzbekistan welcomes the media development reforms in Azerbaijan, including the adoption of the Media Law and the establishment of the Media Development Agency (MEDIA), which is designed to develop the media in the country and provide them with all kinds of support, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan Bakhrom Ashrafkhanov said in Baku at an event dedicated to the Day of Press and Mass Media Workers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is celebrated on June 27, Report informs.
"This significant date has a rather long history. So, on June 27, 1906, the first issue of the first newspaper in the Uzbek language ‘Tarakkiy’ (Progress) was published, which left a bright mark on the history of the press of our Republic," the Ambassador of Uzbekistan said.
Bakhrom Ashrafkhanov noted that he was very impressed by the work of Azerbaijani journalists, who actively and promptly cover important events and facts: "History remembers cases when Azerbaijani journalists did their work at the cost of their own lives. In this regard, I want to honor the blessed memory of Chingiz Mustafayev, Maharram Ibrahimov, Siraj Abishev and other journalists who gave their lives for the sake of their cause, justice, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," the ambassador said.
According to him, this day is celebrated in a historically significant period - in the year of celebration of the 100th anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, who is a hero not only of the Azerbaijani people, but of the entire Turkic world.
Then the ceremony of awarding representatives of the media of Azerbaijan took place.
