The international community should support Azerbaijani environmental activists who demand to put an end to environmental terrorism and stop the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijani-Georgian community of Sephardic Jews, Director of the Baku Jewish School, Rabbi Zamir Isayev said in an interview with the Foreign Policy Association, Report informs.
“The reality on the ground is that the Azerbaijani eco-activists are there for almost 40 days. They are absolutely right in their requirement to let them monitor the mines. They are exploiting the mines and polluting Azerbaijani nature. This affects the entire world.”
The peaceful Azerbaijani environmental protests continue along the Lachin Corridor despite the cold weather, he noted.
“The Armenians are lying about the blocking of the area. I was there. Humanitarian convoys continue to provide for Armenian civilians all the time. The Jewish community stands with the Azerbaijani activists and their right to protect their land.”
On January 18, 2023, Azerbaijan launched the first interstate arbitration process in accordance with the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats. As part of the arbitration process, Azerbaijan demands to oblige Armenia to stop all ongoing violations of the convention and pay full compensation for the destruction of the environment in the previously occupied territories.
