Laying fiber-optic cable along the energy lines of the green corridor creates significant synergistic effects.
As Report informs, this was stated by the Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Samir Mammadov, during the 30th anniversary Baku Energy Forum.
"One of the key advantages is that the co-location of fiber-optic lines and green energy transmission systems increases the efficiency of infrastructure management - especially through real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance. This allows for faster detection of malfunctions and more prompt response to possible failures," he noted.
Samir Mammadov emphasized that the significance of such integration goes far beyond energy.
"It is about creating a digital green corridor. The fiber-optic infrastructure running along the route connecting Central Asia with Azerbaijan, further with Georgia, Romania and Hungary, significantly improves the quality of internet connections and data transmission between countries. This, in turn, contributes to the growth of the digital economy, the development of regional cooperation, and stimulates cross-border communications," added the Deputy Minister.
He noted that in recent years, Azerbaijan has made serious investments in the development of the internal fiber-optic network.
"Today, almost the entire territory of the country is covered by fiber-optic infrastructure. The next step is integration into regional digital corridors. This will bring benefits not only at the political or economic level but also everyday benefits to citizens - expanding opportunities for business, creating new jobs, developing remote employment and digital services," he emphasized.
In addition, according to him, several Tier III data centers are already operating in the country, and new facilities are currently under construction.
"I am confident that the development of digital corridors based on 'green energy' will become a catalyst for the growth in the number of data centers. This will undoubtedly become an additional stimulus for the economic development of Azerbaijan," concluded Samir Mammadov.
