German president: Visit to Azerbaijan good opportunity to discuss bilateral ties, peace process in South Caucasus

The visit to Azerbaijan is a good opportunity to discuss Azerbaijani-German bilateral relations and the peace process in the South Caucasus, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with delegations present.

According to Report, Steinmeier reminded that his last visit to Azerbaijan took place nine years ago when he held the position of Germany's foreign minister.

"Since then, serious geopolitical changes have occurred, as if an entire eternity has passed. I am glad to return to Baku, this is a good opportunity to have a broad exchange of views, particularly on issues of developing bilateral relations and the peace process with Armenia," said the politician.

He also reminded that in 2023, as part of his visit to Kazakhstan, he visited trading ports and logistics centers, including an Azerbaijani ferry named after Zarifa Aliyeva.

"This ship is also the territory of Azerbaijan. So I can say that before this visit, I had been on Azerbaijani territory twice," said the German president.
