Geopolitical powers seek to destabilize South Caucasus, expert warns

It's not just some Western states, but other powers as well that do not benefit from peace and stability being established in the South Caucasus, Mamuka Areshidze, the head of the Caucasus Center for Strategic Research and Georgian political commentator Mamuka Areshidze told Report.

"They are doing their best to stir up trouble here and create internal strife," Areshidze said noting that there are forces that are particularly trying to carry out these actions in Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Areshidze pointed out that the political landscape and views in the world have changed. "Once you know your enemy, you can plan their next move and your own move in advance, because you are familiar with their logic," he said. Azerbaijan has passed all tests with great success because the state is capable of this, with the recent parliamentary elections being one of the next successful tests, according to the analyst.

However, Areshidze stressed the need for caution, expressing that these forces will continue their efforts to create turmoil in the country. "They will attempt to incite a civil war and try to pit political parties against each other," he warned.

The pundit asserted that, like Azerbaijan, Georgia will successfully pass all tests, as Georgian society has seen many severe tests, including civil war and the wars in Abkhazia and Ossetia. He emphasized that the Georgian people, along with all the peoples living in Georgia, do not want confrontation, turmoil, or war, and will strive to ensure the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country are held as peacefully as possible, just as the process took place calmly in Azerbaijan.

Areshidze added that some observers will do their best to refuse to recognize the election results, with large sums of money allocated for this purpose. "All attempts will be made, but the outcome of these attempts will depend on both citizens and political parties," he said. The analyst expressed confidence that the plans of those forces that want to destroy the country will not succeed: "And while there will be rallies and marches, there will be no coup and it will not be allowed."
