French Polynesia aims to harness democratic freedoms for progress

We want to use the opportunities that will be created by freedom and democracy, said Tevaipaea Hoiore, vice-chairman of the Education, Youth and Sports Commission of the Assembly of French Polynesia, Report informs.

The vice-chairman made the remark at the conference titled "French Polynesia's right to decolonization: challenges and perspectives" held at Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament) on May 30.

"We want support from you and the international community. Gaining sovereignty will allow us to preserve our unique heritage and serve the interests of our people. Our annual population growth is more than 500 people. However, young people between the ages of 17 and 25 leave and turn to France with their dreams of the future, and join the army. This creates a serious difficulty in the military and strategic interests of our people. All this has had a serious impact on the labor market and social demographic situation,” Hoiore noted.

The official underscored that support is crucial on the road to sovereignty.
