Uzbekistan welcomes Azerbaijan’s determination to restore its territorial integrity, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Sodiq Safoyev, who was on a visit to New York to participate in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, told the US bureau of Report.
He noted that the Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations are currently experiencing a golden age: “Today, relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are perhaps at a level unprecedented in history. Last year, President Ilham Aliyev visited Uzbekistan three times in a year. If I’m not mistaken, such thing happened for the first time. Today our political dialogue, mutual understanding are increasingly strengthened, economic ties are developing. I am very glad that during the last two visits of the President of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan, a school was opened in Fuzuli, and there are already the first students there. I also accompanied the head of state within the framework of this visit. On the one hand, we saw the cities, villages and residential centers that Armenia destroyed in 30 years, and on the other hand, we saw Karabakh, which Azerbaijan revived in a short time. We were very happy about the revival of the region.”
Safoyev noted that Uzbekistan has always clearly stated its position regarding Azerbaijan’s legitimate struggle: “We are pleased with Azerbaijan’s achievements in all areas, especially in restoring territorial integrity and justice. We support Azerbaijan in its just struggle and welcome the determination of the government and people of Azerbaijan to restore and protect territorial integrity, despite all the difficulties. I am confident that Azerbaijan will soon turn Karabakh into one of the most paradisiacal corners of the world, and Shusha will open its arms and welcome guests from all over the world so that they can enjoy its beauty.”
