Foreign expert: Temperature in Azerbaijan will rise faster than world average

The temperature in Azerbaijan is predicted to rise faster than the world average, Gepa Jansen-Klaus, Senior Client Underwriter Nordics, Operational Lead CIS markets at Swiss Re, told a panel discussion themed “Insurance under the impact of climate change” held within the Azerbaijan International Insurance Forum - AIIF-2024, Report informs.

According to her, depending on the emission scenario, an increase in temperature of up to 4.7% is expected until the 2090s: “Azerbaijan is considered vulnerable to the effects of climate change and is ranked 73 out of 181 countries in the Notre Dame Global Adaptation Index (ND Gain Index). Drought is likely to reduce agricultural productivity and increase desertification and soil salinity. At the same time, rising temperatures will increase the likelihood of extreme precipitation events that could lead to flooding and potential landslides.”
