Stefan Srbljanović: Azerbaijan one of Serbia main partners in diversifying gas supply sources

Azerbaijan is one of Serbia's main partners in the diversification of gas supply sources, Stefan Srbljanović, State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy, said in Baku at the 8th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Serbia Joint Intergovernmental Commission On Trade and Economic Cooperation, according to Report.

He emphasized the successful development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia in recent years, which, according to him, contributes to the expansion of cooperation in the economic sphere.

Stefan Srbljanović recalled that at the final stage of construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector, Baku and Belgrade reached an agreement on the supply of up to 400 million cubic meters of gas per year from Azerbaijan.

He said energy cooperation is of key importance, as it is long-term and contributes to ensuring energy security, which is one of the most important tasks in the modern world and is equated with national security.

According to Srbljanović, thanks to the Southern Gas Corridor project, Serbia is diversifying its supply routes and gaining access to sources in the Caspian region and the Middle East.

He noted that Serbia also gained access to the liquefied natural gas terminal in the Greek port of Alexandroupolis, noting, however, that Azerbaijan is one of Serbia's main partners in diversifying supply sources.

In addition, Serbia is closely monitoring all initiatives serving the region's energy security, such as the agreement between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary on the supply of green energy to the EU via a cable laid on the bottom of the Black Sea, added Srbljanović.
