Georgia’s dependence on electricity imports growing

Georgia is expected to import 2.38 terawatt/hour of electricity this year, according to the forecast electricity balance for 2022, approved by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Georgian bureau of Report informs.
According to the document, compared to last year, the volume of imports will increase by 19%.
In 2021, the import of electricity in Georgia amounted to 2 terawatt/hour, which is 25% higher than the previous year.
Last year, Russia was the main supplier of electricity to Georgia (1.244 billion kilowatt/hour). Georgia imported 600.1 million kilowatt/hour of electricity from Azerbaijan, and 161.2 million kilowatt/hour from Turkey.
