Azerbaijan has the potential to produce green hydrogen using offshore wind energy, aided by the abundance of winds in the Caspian Sea, Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov told Report.
He noted that there are different types of hydrogen. “The most suitable of them for our conditions may be green one, obtained by pyrolysis of water and using a battery with stored energy from wind turbines.”
The deputy minister added that green hydrogen is practically not used on an industrial scale, and it is expensive. Therefore, it makes sense to wait until the technologies are developed, which will reduce the cost of the process, he said.
“At the moment, it is necessary to subsidize the production of green hydrogen, but we don’t want to choose this path,” Soltanov concluded.
