Bayraktar: Gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Syria to increase to 6 MCM per day in second stage

Azerbaijan and Türkiye plan to increase the volume of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Syria to 6 million cubic meters per day in the second stage, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said live on the “AHaber” TV channel, Report informs.

He noted that currently 3.4 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas are supplied to Syria daily.

“However, the gas pipeline through which supplies are carried out is designed for 6 million cubic meters of gas per day. As part of the second stage, we plan to increase this figure from 3.4 million to 6 million cubic meters per day,” Bayraktar said.

The minister noted that these supplies are carried out on a commercial, not a grant basis.

“Natural gas coming from Azerbaijan is exported to Syria..<>... Azerbaijan has committed to supplying gas and sells it to Syria. Türkiye is responsible for the delivery and transportation of gas and provides the relevant logistics. In addition, the Qatar Fund for Development provides funding for this project. Thus, we are talking about a certain commercial activity here,” Bayraktar said.

The minister added that the gas produced in Azerbaijan is supplied to Türkiye, to the BOTAŞ system, and according to the concluded swap agreement, Türkiye transfers this gas at the Syrian-Turkish border, in the Yavuzlu region.

The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Syria via the Kilis-Aleppo gas pipeline began on August 2, 2025. The gas is supplied through the Turkish border town of Kilis to power plants in the Syrian cities of Aleppo and Homs, where it will be used to generate electricity. Thanks to this energy cooperation, Syria expects to achieve the production of 1,200-1,300 megawatts of electricity.
