Azerbaijan is currently taking significant steps towards improving the environment and rehabilitating polluted areas, Umayra Taghiyeva, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, highlighted the country's commitment to addressing ecological issues during her speech at the Caspian Energy Forum, Report informs.
"Azerbaijan is one of the main participants in the global 'green transition', which is considered a top priority worldwide," stated Taghiyeva. She emphasized that the government places great importance on solving environmental problems and is taking practical measures in this direction.
The deputy minister also pointed out that Azerbaijan has set an ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality in the territories liberated from occupation after 30 years.
"Along with reconstruction work, special attention is being paid to ecological restoration in these areas. Thousands of afforestation measures are being implemented," she added.
Tagiyeva highlighted that the immense responsibility of hosting COP29, the highest platform for global climate change discussions. "The entire country is preparing for this prestigious event. As part of our presidency at COP29, an agreement on climate finance, which has been an open issue on the global climate agenda for many years, must be reached," she stressed.
The deputy minister noted that while there are sufficient financial resources worldwide, the key issue lies in how to direct and spend these funds effectively to address global climate problems.
"It is crucial to allocate this finance to the right places," Taghiyeva concluded.
