COP29 should succeed in implementing the decisions that have been left on paper from previous conferences, Muhammad Al-Duwaini, Muhammad Al-Ḍuwaini, the Deputy of Gran Imam Ahmad Al-Tayeb of Egypt’s prestigious Al-Azhar Mosque and University, said at the Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku, Report informs.
Al-Duwaini highlighted the crucial role religious leaders can play in correcting understandings and behaviors related to the environment. He stressed the importance of strengthening the connection between religions and people in addressing the climate crisis.
"Climate change is no less significant than the coronavirus pandemic," Al-Duwaini stated. "Therefore, we must take steps by joining forces. COP27 was held in Egypt, and COP28 took place in the UAE. COP29 should achieve the implementation of the decisions that were adopted in its predecessors but remained on paper."
To effectively combat climate change and its consequences, Al-Duwaini called for the strengthening of scientific activities and research in educational institutions, as well as the adoption of relevant laws and regulations.
