Azerbaijan will play a key role at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in reaching an agreement for the future of the planet, former president of Bulgaria and member of the International Advisory Committee of Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency, Rosen Plevneliev, told Report.
He spoke about meetings held in different countries, noting that COP29 teams are negotiating worldwide.
"Discussions are being held with large and small, rich and poor countries. When decisions are made about potential global agreements, all these countries should be at the table. Azerbaijan will fulfill its historic mission in terms of combating climate change, and we have no doubt about this," Plevneliev noted.
The diplomat added that Azerbaijan is on the path to making important decisions and has put forward its initiatives.
"Azerbaijan holds a strong position, as in recent years it has chaired the Non-Aligned Movement, which unites 120 countries and is the largest political institution representing world states after the UN. In addition, Azerbaijan has brought new ideas to the agenda that can be supported by all countries. For example, the idea of creating a fund that will help needy countries with a new method of management and transparency belongs to Azerbaijan. It's not just about focusing on financial issues. The most important nuance that Azerbaijan will prioritize is that all countries should present their national goals to prevent global warming," Rosen Plevneliev added.
