Azerbaijan sees 5-fold surge in frozen mackerel imports from Greenland

Azerbaijan imported 535.35 tons of mackerel (frozen), valued at $1.1 million in the first half of 2024, Report informs, citing the country's State Statistical Committee.

The obtained data shows that the imports fell by 4 percent in volume and by 5 percent in value compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan imported 399.5 tons (-3%) of frozen mackerel from Iceland worth $776,500 (-9%), 80.3 tons (+5 times) from Greenland worth $203,300 (+5 times), 41.2 tons from Russia worth $106,000 (no supply a year ago), 14 tons (-83%) from Norway worth $39,700 (-76%), 0.5 tons (-50%) from the UAE worth $2,300 (-52%).

Meanwhile, in 2023, Azerbaijan imported a total of 3,509 tons of mackerel from eight countries, of which 54.3 percent came from Iceland and 34.1 percent from Greenland.
