Tobias Baumann: Azerbaijani may increase wine exports to Europe

The increase in the exports of Azerbaijani wine to Europe may be possible after the signing of a new agreement with the European Union, Tobias Baumann, executive director of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce, told Report.

"The trade section of this agreement provides for the adoption of standards and obtaining licenses that facilitate the access of Azerbaijani products to European countries. It will also facilitate the entry of Azerbaijani wines into the markets of EU countries.”

Baumann added that at present, a small amount of Azerbaijani wines is exported to European markets.

The chairman of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce said that the 1st EU-Azerbaijan Wine Summit was held on March 15 to promote relations between Azerbaijani and Bulgarian winemakers: "I hope that such events will be held regularly. This event was held with the support of the European Commission. Fifteen wine-making companies from Azerbaijan and Bulgaria showcased their products. The event was held to promote business exchange between Azerbaijani and Bulgarian wine producers.”

In 2021, Azerbaijan produced 714.4 dekaliters of grape wine, 15.6% less than in 2020. Last year, Azerbaijan exported 263.4 dekaliters of grape wine worth $3.961,000.
