Azerbaijan starts importing tea from new markets

During the first nine months of 2022, Azerbaijan imported 10,690 tons of black tea for $54.437 million, respectively, down 0.1% and up 19% from the previous year, Report informs, citing the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, the value of the imports increased by 19% year-on-year, though the quantity decreased by 0.1%.

In the reporting period, Azerbaijan imported 9,019 tons (+4.6%) of tea from Sri Lanka for $47.032 million (24% more than a year ago), 746.22 tons (+4.5%) from Russia for $3.966 million (+16.2%), 453.93 tons (-30 %) from India for $1.455 million (-35 %), 194.97 tons (+7.7 %) from Kenya for $968,150 (+27 %), 35.55 tons (+18.8%) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for $308,630 (+21.2%).

This year, for the first time in the last 11 years (note: publicly available official statistics on foreign trade are as of 2011), supplies were made from Colombia: 0.01 ton of tea for $350.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported 1,494 tons (+2 times) of black tea for $9.376 million (+62%).

In particular, Azerbaijan exported 848 tons (+16.3 times) of tea to Russia for $4.023 million (+13 times), 469.39 tons (+2%) to Georgia for $3.905 million (+9.8%), 99.82 tons (-33.5%) to Ukraine for $806,150 (-32.7%), 15.91 tons (+2.7 times) to the UAE for $157,990 (+2.8 times), 20.3 tons to Poland (supply restored after one year and 3 months) for $89,590.
