Association chair: More state subsidies need to be allocated for farmers in Azerbaijan

More state subsidies need to be allocated for farmers to expand pomegranate orchards in Azerbaijan and improve the quality of medicines, fertilizers, and pesticides, Farhad Garashov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association Public Union, told Report.

According to Garashov, to increase the competitiveness of Azerbaijani pomegranates and brand them internationally, there is a need to expand farmers' participation in both local and international exhibitions, as well as agrotechnical training.

"Azerbaijani pomegranates are distinguished in the world market for their high quality and natural extracts, standing out for their taste, sweetness, high antioxidant content, and long shelf life. Currently, we mainly export pomegranates to Russia and Georgia. Until the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine was also one of the main export markets. To increase competitiveness, we still need to work on expanding the export market and promoting the product," added Garashov.
