Domestic tourism to be priority in Azerbaijan

Domestic tourism will be a priority during the post-pandemic period in Azerbaijan and will play a more significant role in the regional development, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency Fuad Naghiyev said, Report informs.

Naghiyev noted that one of the main goals is the most effective use of the tourism potential of Azerbaijan.

“Recently, agritourism and rural tourism have become increasingly important in the world. These types of tourism are important factors in increasing employment, improving the well-being of citizens, achieving sustainable rural incomes, reducing rural migration, promoting cultural heritage and local gastronomy,” he said.

According to Naghiyev, domestic tourism in Azerbaijan has declined due to the coronavirus pandemic, and about 3 million domestic tourist trips were postponed in 2020.
