Azerbaijan plans to build $20M tourist complex in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan will build an international health and wellness complex on the shores of Lake Alakol in the southeastern part of Kazakhstan, known for its healing properties and picturesque nature, Report informs via Kazakh media.

This issue was discussed by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel with the Akim (mayor) of the Abay region Berik Uali. The bilateral meeting was also attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Business Council, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Turkic Entrepreneurs Aslan Kuniyarov, representatives of the Azerbaijan Investment Holding and the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund.

The Azerbaijani delegation presented an investment project for the construction of an international health and wellness complex on the shores of Lake Alakol. Investors plan to build a year-round tourist facility designed to accommodate up to 800 people at a time. The volume of investment in the project is $20 million. With the commissioning of the complex, about 200 new jobs will be created.

In addition, the project will increase the tourist attractiveness of the region, increase tax revenues to the local budget and form a new cluster at the intersection of medicine and recreation.

Bayel noted at the meeting that relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have reached a new level of alliance. The ambassador recalled that the leadership of Kazakhstan has set the task of strengthening economic ties and implementing joint projects, including in the field of tourism. "In 2024, we created a joint investment fund of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

If the project in Alakol is implemented, it can become one of the first within the framework of this fund," the diplomat emphasized. The akim of the region emphasized the importance of the tourism project for the region: "Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are fraternal peoples, we are united by a common history and spiritual roots. We are glad to see you and your initiative to create a large-scale tourism complex in our region. The master plan for the Alakol tourist zone is currently being developed. We are ready to allocate a site for construction. The akimat will provide the necessary support," Uali emphasized.
