Easter services were held in Orthodox churches located in Baku and the Azerbaijani districts on the night of April 20, Report informs.
This year, both Catholics and Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter on the same day, April 20.
This rare coincidence is explained by the peculiarities of different calendars. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, or Easter, is one of the most important Christian holidays.
On the eve of the holiday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed the Orthodox Christian community with a congratulatory message.
"Today, the Christian community holds a special place in our society, where an atmosphere of national and spiritual solidarity and exemplary tolerance prevails. I am pleased to note that our Christian citizens are honorably represented in the public, political, and cultural life of the country and make a valuable contribution to the development and progress of our common home - Azerbaijan," reads the message.
