Türkiye takes over BSEC chairmanship

On July 1, Türkiye assumed the chair of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), the Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry said, Report informs via TASS.
“Our country has assumed the BSEC Presidency for six months from July 1, 2023. <...> The priority of our country will be the implementation of the necessary steps together with the member states to accelerate cooperation within the framework of the fundamental principles and goals of the BSEC,” the ministry said.
The presidency passed to Türkiye from Serbia.
The Foreign Ministry also noted that "the fundamental goals of the organization, which are to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the Black Sea region and the development of friendly and good neighborly relations, are more important than ever in the face of the challenges in the region."
BSEC is a regional economic association of 13 states of the Black Sea region and the Southern Balkans, created on the initiative of Türkiye in 1992. The headquarters is located in Istanbul. The goal of the organization is to turn the Black Sea region into a zone of peace, stability and prosperity through multilateral economic cooperation between its members.
