Ahead of the announcement of the results of negotiations to extend the grain deal, which was originally initiated by Türkiye and expires on May 18, the importance of this country in this matter becomes even more obvious.
Report informs that with the disruption of the supply chain of agricultural products since February 2022, the grain deal - an agreement between the UN, Türkiye, Russia and Ukraine on the creation of sea corridors for the safe export of grain and other food from the ports of Ukraine, has become a very important initiative to address this problem.
Today, the positions of the parties at the talks, which have been going on in Istanbul for two days, demonstrate who is really interested in resolving the problems caused by the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
Türkiye has repeatedly expressed a desire to achieve an extension of this agreement, but the Russian side stated that if there are no guarantees for the Russian Federation, including on the supply of Russian ammonia, the Black Sea initiative "ceases to exist."
According to TASS, Russia opposes the endless extension or expansion of the grain deal, backed by a number of Western countries, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin. "We are against what many Western capitals are speaking out for, against its [deal] expansion or indefinite extension. We must understand what is being done, including by us and the participants in these agreements," he said.
This is not the only indicator of how Türkiye is working to improve the geopolitical situation in the world. Country's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu recently took part in a quadripartite meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Türkiye, Russia, Iran and Syria in Moscow.
According to the Anadolu agency, at the talks in Moscow the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Russia, Iran and Syria agreed to prepare a Roadmap for "promoting" relations between Türkiye and Syria. Coordination of efforts to prepare this document will be entrusted to the deputy foreign ministers, defense ministries and intelligence agencies of the four countries
Türkiye remains one of the key global players in the world, truly interested in establishing stability not only in the region, but throughout the world. This is evidenced by its support for Azerbaijan's struggle for a just restoration of its territorial integrity in 2020, and efforts to extend the grain deal, and attempts to improve relations with Syria.
This is evidenced by the recent initiative of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sudan, where bloodshed continues and the number of victims increases.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his country's readiness to provide a platform for dialogue on Sudan if the conflicting parties decide on large-scale negotiations. He also assured that Ankara, in coordination with the UN, will continue efforts to deliver emergency humanitarian aid to the people of Sudan.
In this way, Türkiye continues to play a key role in world politics, the significance of which is recognized both in the West and in the East.
