Russian Foreign Ministry comments on cancellation of five-party meeting in Granada

Azerbaijan’s decision not to participate in the meeting in Granada is its sovereign right, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, answering a question from News.ru about the cancellation of the five-party meeting scheduled for October 5 in Granada, Spain, Report informs.

“It is the sovereign right of each country to determine its position and policy. In this case, we are talking about a meeting in which we didn’t participate. Therefore, I don’t consider it necessary to comment on the decisions of the parties. Moreover, Baku regularly explains and provides informational comments on all its steps,” Zakharova said.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev refused a trip to Spain, where a meeting was supposed to take place with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan with the participation of the leaders of the EU, France and Germany. The reason for this was the destructive position of France, which was a participant in the planned five-party meeting, as well as the disagreement of Paris and Berlin regarding Turkiye’s participation in it.
