US citizen Eugene (Gene) Spektor, sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Moscow City Court, was collecting data for the Pentagon to create a genetic screening system for Russian residents, Report informs via TASS.
He was found guilty of espionage.
"By the decision of the Moscow City Court, US citizen Eugene Mironovich Spektor was found guilty of committing a crime under Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code (espionage)," the FSB stated.
"The American, acting in the interests of the Pentagon and its affiliated commercial organization, collected and transferred various information on biotechnology and biomedical topics, including state secrets, to a foreign party for the subsequent creation of a high-speed genetic screening system of Russia's population by the United States."
