Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport removes 37 helicopters from service due to fake tires

Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsiya) has temporarily removed 37 helicopters from service - 27 Mi-8MTV-1 and 10 Ansat-SK. All of them were produced at the Kazan Helicopter Plant, which is part of the Russian Helicopters holding company, Report informs referring to the Izvestia newspaper.

Rubber with fake quality certificates was used in the production of these helicopters. The material was delivered to the plant in August, and its supplier was previously selected during the procurement procedure. As a result, the factory quality service discovered a defect, after which the unused rubber was rejected and the used one was replaced with another.

It is clarified that Kazan Helicopter Plant contacted law enforcement agencies regarding the incident.

On helicopters, rubber gaskets are used as a seal to prevent fuel leakage.
