Putin convenes emergency Security Council meeting after hostage crisis in penal colony

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held an emergency meeting with permanent members of the country's Security Council.

According to Report, which cites the Kremlin's press service, the primary topic of discussion was the situation at the high-security correctional facility No. 19 in the Volgograd Region, where several inmates took staff members hostage.

Putin stated that Arkady Gostev, the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), had briefed him on the situation.

According to previous reports, prisoners of Colony No. 19 took employees of the correctional facility hostage in Russia's Volgograd region.
