It is premature to talk about maintaining Russian bases in Khmeimim and Tartus, this will be a subject for discussion with authorities, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, Report informs via Russian media.
"What happened in Syria surprised the whole world, Russia is no exception. The situation there is still unstable, a period of transformation is underway. Russian authorities are doing everything necessary to establish contact in Syria with those who can ensure the security of military bases," he noted.
Peskov also said that the decision to grant political asylum to Bashar Assad, who left Syria, and his family was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Of course, such decisions cannot be made without the head of state. This is his decision," said the Kremlin representative.
