OTS states agree to develop common map and unified catalog of geographical names

Member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) have agreed to develop a common map and a unified catalog of geographical names.

According to Report's Kazakhstan bureau, the agreements were reached following the 3rd meeting of the heads of cartographic agencies of OTS member states in Astana.

According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, representatives of the relevant agencies of the Turkic states, as well as OTS Deputy Secretary General Nuru Guliyev, attended the meeting.

One of the key issues discussed was the creation of a common Turkic map that would integrate the cartographic data of OTS states into a single information space.

The working group was instructed to complete the project and present it at the next meeting.

Participants also agreed to continue work on a unified catalog of geographical names and expand the exchange of technologies and expertise in geodesy, cartography and digital spatial data.

In addition, a proposal was made to consider establishing a special unit under the OTS Secretariat to coordinate joint cartographic projects.

At the end of the meeting, the sides signed a declaration setting out agreements on future cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives.

The next meeting of the heads of cartographic agencies of OTS member states will be held in Kyrgyzstan in 2027.
