Niger greenlights Russian embassy in Niamey

Niger has decided to open a Russian embassy in the country and expects this to happen in the near future, Foreign Minister Bakary Yaou Sangaré said at a joint press conference following the talks between representatives of the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS) and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Report informs via TASS.

"All the necessary decisions on this matter have been made," he noted.

"Now we must find a building that is suitable for the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Niger. We will do this soon and are looking forward to Russia proposing a candidate for ambassador. We hope that this will happen as soon as possible."

Russia and Niger will send their ambassadors to each other on a reciprocal basis, the minister continued.

"Our ambassador is already in Moscow, and soon we will have a military attaché here," he said.

The duties of the Russian ambassador to Niger are currently being performed by the Russian ambassador to Mali.
