French President Emmanuel Macron plans to deploy around 40,000 troops in Ukraine during a ceasefire, Rzeczpospolita said, citing Elie Tenenbaum, an expert from the French Institute of International Relations who is working on the mission deployment project, Report informs.
The article notes that France proposes to send a peacekeeping mission that would guarantee that the Russian side would not violate any future ceasefire and the established demarcation line. Macron will discuss such a plan during his visit to Warsaw.
"The peacekeeping mission could consist of five brigades - about 40,000 soldiers. Poland could take command of one of them," said the expert.
In December, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, suggested that European countries could send troops to Ukraine in the event of a possible ceasefire.
