Kyrgyzstan President Japarov intends to run for second term

The incumbent President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, plans to participate in the next presidential elections in the republic, the president’s spokesperson Askat Alagozov told the AKIpress news agency, Report informs via TASS.
“Yes, President Sadyr Japarov will participate in elections for a second term. This will be a consistent step, given that a start has been made and long-term international projects of strategic importance are being planned,” Alagozov said.
Japarov won the presidential election in January 2021 and officially took office two and a half weeks later. His term of office expires in three years.
In accordance with the changes made to the legislation, the next president of Kyrgyzstan will be elected not for a six-year term, but for five years. Moreover, the same person can now hold the post of president twice.
