Kazakhstan imposes temporary ban on sugar exports

A temporary ban on the export of sugar in Kazakhstan came into force on June 14, 2024, Report informs, citing the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.

“The temporary ban on the export of sugar from Kazakhstan will last until August 31, 2024. This does not apply to the international transit of sugar from the territory of the republic, as well as to the transportation of these products between the countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union,” the ministry said in a statement.

The decision to introduce temporary ban was made due to the increase in domestic demand for sugar by both the population and industrial consumers in Kazakhstan during summer.

According to the ministry, available sugar reserves are more than enough to meet the demand for sugar until the new harvest in the country.
