The Israeli side violated international law prohibiting attacks on nuclear facilities by targeting a complex in central Iran — in Arak. Iran has informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the incident, the press service of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said in a statement, Report informs via Tasnim.
"This morning, Israel attacked the research reactor and the heavy water production complex in Arak," the statement said.
The organization noted that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
"Thanks to preemptive measures, there is no threat or harm to residents of areas near the complex," the AEOI added. The nuclear facilities themselves are located more than 50 kilometers northwest of the city of Arak, the administrative center of Markazi Province.
The AEOI also noted that the IAEA has not taken any action regarding previous attacks on other Iranian nuclear facilities.
